“No matter where you’re from, everyone’s local!”
“I had no idea there was so much going on”
Glade (Guildford Learning & Development Enterprise)
Glade is a gardening and street cleansing enterprise, launched in partnership with Surrey Lifelong Learning Partnership, Oakleaf Enterprise and Guildford YMCA.
Its aim is to provide training, skills and work opportunities for jobseekers and young people in the local community, while providing gardening and street cleansing services for the residents of Park Barn and Westborough.
Based at 109, Southway, Glade is providing new opportunities within local communities for people to improve their employability through volunteering, work experience and accredited qualifications.
The project is working with unemployed people offering them courses and training programmes to give them the skills for future employment.
The community lead for street cleansing is Steve Payne. He is becoming a regular sight on the streets of Park Barn and Westborough and is supported by a team of volunteers. Steve grew up in Park Barn and has family still living locally. He has a passion for conservation and wildlife and has identified a number of areas locally that have potential for mini conservation areas. Together with another local volunteer, Chris Berry, they have lots of ideas about where attention is needed. If you see them out and about, please stop them to have a chat.
Glade is now looking to expand so that it can provide even more opportunities and support within the community.
If you would like a quote for any residential or corporate gardening services, e-mail project manager Dave Pascoe.
