“Our focus is on creating a cohesive community network, whereby we can support groups and residents to assist each other in making Stoke a great place to live. “
National Citizenship Service
National Citizen Service (NCS) is run by The Challenge and aims to connect people and encourage social integration. It is a government-backed scheme, open to 15- to 17-year-old students, that helps them build skills for work, life and the transition to adulthood.
At its heart is the unfailing belief that, given the tools, respect and opportunity, young people can use their raw energy and talent to change the world around them for the better.
NCS is an intensive, part-residential programme that takes place over 18 days in the summer holidays, followed by four social action days. There are also shorter programmes during Autumn and February half terms.
There are three parts to NCS: NCS Personal Challenge: Get Active – an action-packed residential challenge. NCS Team Challenge: Get Involved – teammates work together to learn new skills in sport, media, music, photography, drama or enterprise. NCS Real Challenge: Make Your Mark – using their newly acquired skills, teams design a social action project in the local area, and pitch to win funding to make it happen.
Volunteer opportunities: We are always looking for charity partners, businesses and individuals to be part of the programme.
